The Artist
Behind the Work

I'm Jamie Davis. I paint in my studio in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with a palette knife. That's where the color, the movement and the texture in my work come from. I have a BFA from the University of South Dakota and an MFA from Colorado State University, and I studied and taught in Italy.

The paintings on this site come from real places and real subjects: Cortona and Montepulciano in Tuscany, a couple's land in the South Dakota countryside at sunset, a buffalo at 40 × 60 inches, my cousin Addy at 15 with her arms crossed. In each one I'm after the same thing: to move beyond the surface of a subject and find the emotional language underneath it.

Now I paint for a specific wall, in a home or a business. You send me a photo of the wall, its measurements, and the colors and feeling you want. I quote it at $1 per square inch, so a 40 × 60 is $2,400. I send you pictures as I go and finish in one to two months. If you don't like it, I'll paint it again.

I also sell giclee prints of any painting here, starting at $45. Call me at 605-409-8089 or email info@jamiedavisart.com. I answer within one business day.
